China-US Partners in Climate Change

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates from Seeing Change.

When the two largest emitters of CO2 sit down to discuss climate change, the world should take notice. Officials form China and the United States of America have sat down in advance of the Copenhagen climate meetings in December, to discuss green technologies (AFP). With the announcement of a cooperative institute to look to better environmental practices, the US and China have shown a true desire to work towards a better world. And future meetings are planned.

These meetings are a great sign. While Copenhagen will be fraught with negotiations and demands, meetings that precede Copenhagen show where the world is starting from. Having an open dialog between countries that have historical not  agreed on policy (they quite regularly veto or dismiss the others ideas on principal) is very encouraging. I look forward to following the Copenhagen meetings, and now feel like there is more hope now that China and the US are stepping up their efforts.
